After reading my latest post about St. Benedict and his Benedictine Rules HERE we decided to enrich his Feast day with these two crafts for our homeschool room. They were easy and affordable to make, and they came out beautiful!
The first sign I made was based on St. Benedict's golden rule "ora et labora" I think it will be our new School motto this year!
All I needed was a wooden sign and dollar store letter stickers.
Simple!
We needed a school motto sign! Do you have a school motto sign in your homeschool room? Maybe it will help us keep centered and motivated throughout our school year!
Next, I thought of his medal, of the powerful protection it offers, and the wonderful prayer it contains!
FRONT OF THE MEDAL
Above the chalice and the raven in the center, on either side of Saint Benedict:
Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti
(Cross of the Holy Father Benedict)
Words around the perimeter of the medal:
Ejus in obitu nro praesentia muniamur
(May we at our death be fortified by his presence)
BACK OF THE MEDAL
Initials on the cross in the center:
C. S. S. M. L. - N. D. S. M. D.
Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux
(The Holy Cross be my light)
Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux
(Let not the dragon be my guide)
Circles by the four corners of the cross:
C S P B
Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti
(Cross of the Holy Father Benedict)
Initials around the perimeter:
V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B
Vade Retro Satana, Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana—Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas
(Step back, Satan, do not suggest to me thy vanities —evil are the things thou profferest, drink thou thy own poison)
And at the top:
Pax
(Peace)
I focused on the back of the medal for our school, because of his spiritual benefits in warding off evil and temptations. So, I only designed the back of the medal for display and, maybe if I feel artsy enough, I may attempt to do the front.
For now, this is the result:
I am in love with it!
All it took was a wooden round sign from the Target dollar spot, black and white paint, and THESE stickers! I am pending to get it blessed to be displayed on a prominent wall in our homeschool room.
Lastly, the kids worked on their daily saint of the day coloring page from HERE.
It was a productive crafty Feast and very special to celebrate! It brought us a sense of purpose and zeal!
St. Benedict pray for us!
